Mobile Proclaims Project Persevere Day, Recognizes a Year of Opioid Abatement Results

The Mobile City Council this week recognized the 16 organizations behind the city's first full year of opioid abatement programming, as Mayor Spiro Cheriogotis proclaimed Aug. 11, 2026, Project Persevere Day.
A year of results
From June 2025 through May 2026, the award recipients — selected through an open, independently reviewed process administered by The Helios Alliance — delivered 117,444 services to 13,388 Mobile residents across the full continuum of care: prevention, treatment, survival programs, and coordination and communication.
"The recipients were not funded as isolated programs — they were selected to build a continuum, interconnected investments across the full arc of the opioid crisis," said Caroline Etherton, chair of The Helios Alliance. "What Mobile built this year is both exceptional and replicable. The model is documented. The data are real. The relationships are built."
A working ecosystem
What emerged over the year was collaboration that extended well beyond any single grant's requirements. Award recipients shared program models, cross-referred participants, and built relationships across a collaborative footprint of more than 60 local organizations.

Project Persevere's public awareness campaign launches later this month, directing Mobile residents to projectpersevere.com for free, local treatment, prevention and crisis resources.
